UEC, aUEC and REC explained

Star Citizen's currencies can be confusing because the Alpha economy and other game modes use different terms.

Summary

  • UEC is also the currency in which the official referral bonus is described.
  • aUEC is the currency used during the Alpha and may be affected by wipes.
  • REC is worth recognising, but it is not important when creating your first account.

UEC and the referral bonus

The official referral bonus is stated in UEC. For details on using a code correctly, see the Registration page.

The bonus is useful, but it does not guarantee an easy or trouble-free start.

aUEC during the Alpha

aUEC is the currency used in the current Alpha. Progress, account balances and items can be affected by wipes or development changes.

Treat earned currency as Alpha progress rather than a permanent balance in a finished game.

  • Currency systems can change during the Alpha.
  • Wipes can affect progress.
  • The referral bonus does not require an immediate purchase.

REC briefly explained

REC appears in specific game modes and rental systems. For a new player, it matters less than UEC, aUEC, Game Packages and Starter Packs.

When you are starting out, focus on your account, a possible Free Fly, system requirements and the first missions.

Do not overvalue currencies

Do not spend your first few hours thinking only about earning money. Finding your way around, learning the flight controls and understanding how the Alpha works are more valuable.

If you continue playing, you will learn the economy naturally over time.
