Forgotten referral code
A valid referral code gives a new account the standard 50,000 UEC enlistment bonus. Adding it during registration is simpler than trying to correct a missed code afterwards.
Use the referral link and check the pre-filled field before completing sign-up. Creating the account is free and does not commit you to a purchase.
Buying the wrong package
A common mistake is buying a Standalone Ship when you still need a Game Package with access to the game. Read the product contents carefully.

- Do not start with an expensive purchase.
- Confirm that game access is included.
- Use Free Fly when available.
- Do not install the game on an HDD.
- Take the alpha state seriously.
Underestimating hardware and the alpha
Star Citizen can be frustrating on underpowered or poorly configured hardware. Using an HDD, having too little RAM and setting unrealistic expectations are common problems.
Star Citizen is also still in alpha: bugs, crashes, server issues and wipes can occur. Be comfortable with that before buying.
Starting with missions that are too difficult
Many beginners start with risky missions and end up losing time, equipment or motivation. Simpler activities are not a step backward; they are valuable practice.
Start with orientation, take-off, landing and lower-risk missions. You can try bunkers, bounty hunting, mining or salvage later.
